Places for People has named the groundworks contractors appointed to a £246m framework covering 13 regional lots across England and Scotland.
Coinford Central and RJ McLeod secured the widest spread of places, with each winning positions on six of the 13 lots. M&J Evans Construction and Houlihan & Co each picked up four lots. The other named winners are MV Kelly, Erith, Tamdown, O’Halloran & O’Brien and Chasetown Civil Engineering.
The framework covers a broad package of site preparation and civil engineering work. According to the published scope, it ranges from site clearance, bulk earthworks and foundations to drainage, utilities, roads, sewers and external works.
In Scotland, the packages go further, covering house foundations through to completed in-situ concrete floors, plot drainage, retaining wall foundations and ducting for electric vehicle infrastructure.
The regional structure places the largest package in Greater London, valued at around £38m. Next is the South West—South package covering Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset, at £30m. East Anglia and the northern Home Counties account for a further £29m.
The lot lists show how the appointments are distributed. In Greater London, the named firms are Coinford Central, Ford Civil Engineering, Fred Champion Groundworks, M&J Evans Construction, Renelec Groundworks and Tithegrove. For Scotland’s Central Belt, the list comprises A D Bly Construction, Coinford Central, Dockerill Groundworks, Houlihan & Co, Kingsheath Construction and O’Connell Contracting.
Scotland North 1, described as Aberdeen area only, includes Advance Construction (Scotland), Akela Construction, Andrew Strain Construction, I&H Brown, Keystone Construction and Stewart Landscapes (Contracts). Scotland North 2, for which the detailed area is not specified, lists Chap Group, I&H Brown, JKR Contractors, Nicol of Skene, RJ McLeod and WM Donald.
Other regional lists in England follow the same pattern of six named contractors per lot. The South East—South lot, covering Surrey, Kent, East Sussex and West Sussex, includes ATD Civils & Groundworks, Chasetown Civil Engineering, Hilliard Civil Engineering (Nottingham), LMH (Civil Engineering), RJ McLeod and Stave-Con. The South East—East lot, covering Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, includes A D Bly Construction, Coinford Central, Houlihan & Co, Kingsheath Construction, O’Halloran & O’Brien and Tamdown Group.
The appointments give Places for People a multi-contractor panel for groundworks across a wide geographic area, while the lot structure ties each firm to specific regions and work packages. The £246m value and the regional package figures indicate the scale of the framework, but the announcement does not set out start dates, completion dates or the amount of work guaranteed to individual contractors.
